The Hero's Quest

What Is THQ

    How does it work?

The Quest Master presents a problem. Players decide how to engage the problem with an action. Dice determine the success or failure of that action. The Quest Master then narrates the outcomes and how the problem has shifted based on their success or failure. The players then react to the new information and devise new plans.

    Here’s an example!

    Quest Master

“The bridge has collapsed! How do you get across?”

    1

“I’m an engineer – can I make a new bridge?” (rolls the dice…)

    Quest Master

“You have the knowledge and tools to make a bridge, but there are no resources in the area.”

    2

“I have wings – can I try to carry my party across?” (rolls the dice…)

    Quest Master

“You can pick up a character and fly with them – but the wind over the canyon is too strong. Would you like to try anyway?”

    3

“I have a map! It looks like we can go around.” (rolls the dice…)

    Quest Master

“You gaze over the cliff edge and see a small trail. It is narrow and looks very dangerous. Would you like to explore it further?”

Every problem requires a choice. Every choice requires a conversation. Every conversation leads to a decision tree. Every decision tree leads to a new series of consequences and choices. The game requires clear communication, consistent problem solving, and focused listening as the environment remains perpetually fluid. The story is alive and reacts to the player in real time. Just like real life.
